This issue presented above could very well be avoided if webmasters just stopped using links pages or resources pages because they equal 0 from an SEO perspective. Scatering reciprocal links all across the website will make it difficult for a link pirate to trick you; their only real chance sis to use a link analysis software.

I recently tried myself to give solutions to these sorts of sneaky reciprocation tactics employed for building back links. (Please, see if the info is useful for your readers and if so, give it an thumbs up – and delete these pharantesis )

I know about this dirty tactic. The good solution is to have an excel file with the list of the pages where you link and which link back to you. When you get new link exchange request then copy the URL of the page requesting link (to make sure you are not already link partners) and link of the page where they are goin to place your link and use CTRL + F to search. If you find this URL in your file you know it is a scam.

There are also another dirty tactics when it come to the link exchange. One of them is placing a link to a page which is not linked from any other website. Another is creating worthless website which is only linkfarm and placing partner's links there.

It’s bad business. Opportunities to cheat the system will always be exploited. A hard one to catc are the ones that link reciprcally and then remove your link after a few months, so that they have a one-way link from you.
