It seems that Google has indeed increased the frequency in its PageRank updates. I have seen a definite change on sites that I am working with. Quite a few of the sites suddenly went up one point, and upon investigating a bit, (thanks Search Engine Journal) it seems I am not the only one.
Google describes PageRank as:
PageRank relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important”.

Apparently the actual update was on the 30th of December, so many people will start to see changes on the search engines over the new year and the beginning of 2009. If anyone is interested, SEO Company has a page showing updates, I dont know how accurate it is, or how up to date, but it has some interesting info anyway.
Sadly, not everyone is going to benefit from the changes, there are many sites that will drop in PageRank, but I suppose not everyone can be a winner, there has to be a loser too
The sites I noticed the biggest change on, were the ones that I have been working hard on with on-page SEO, as well as making them faster loading, valid xhtml and css, cross browser compliant.
Lets hope that 2009 is a good year for all our websites, good luck to all!

4That is a great article thanks for your share. As for the comment as to why page rank is so important to people. I understand it might be over rated among some webmasters but to customers and visitor, it does look bad if you are a 0 pagerank

5Yet another example of how Google rewareds sites that continually get updated, so if you neglect a site for a few months, as I’ve experienced lately, it will be gone.

6Improved frequency of PR changes is good for good seo workers, as they can get benefits in short time period with out waiting for a long time

8I do not know if Google updates the pagerank, but I already has over 1 years with a PR4, every time Google does not put it more difficult to attract visitors to our site, Google wants all the web traffic for them, is not just be left to compete and I am trying to get by with Google Adsense.Pero really earn a pittance if you have it 5 to attract more visitors.
Greetings.

10A great idea to update your site regularly and why Google throws your site out the window if you don’t take care of it.

11I think a lot more changes are ahead for the way Google ranks webpages. In 2009, I have already had some great success, however I am wondering how long it will last.

17Page ranking is the best way of getting your product sold in the market, even though the traffic to site is less page ranking can only be judged by the keyword density of that site.

23However this topic seem to be outdated now but it'll be worth to mention that Google is no more period specific about PR update now. earlier we used to wait for 3-4 months for next page updates but now it may even happen twice a month. Something big is on its way from Google!
